Permanently Reduce
Or Remove Unwanted Hair
How To Choose A Laser Hair Removal Specialist In Atlanta
Believe it or not, the most important question you can ask a provider is, “Do you own your own lasers?” That will be a signal of commitment and investment in time and training. You should also ask, “What kind of lasers do you use?”
Not All Hair Removal Lasers Are Created Equal
Our Cutera® Laser System uses a long wavelength that penetrates deeper into the hair root, which results in greater permanent hair reduction or removal, not just a temporary “stunning” of the hair follicle. It also effectively removes unwanted facial and body hair in patients of all skin types — from the fairest to the darkest skin color. Many other systems cannot be used to treat dark-skinned patients. Our treatments are also more comfortable than many other hair removal lasers, in part because of the built-in cooling mechanism in the laser hand piece.
Patients can expect to see 10 to 20 perecent less hair growth/density with each treatment. Therefore, 75 to 90 percent or more hair removal can be achieved with a recommended series of six to eight treatments in most areas. The hair follicles that are destroyed are gone or reduced permanently.
The Second Most Important Question You Should Ask
“What’s your specialty?” You absolutely must go to somebody who understands the skin. Laser hair removal is not a one-size-fits-all treatment. Not only does your Atlanta provider have to choose the right light and settings for your particular skin type and hair characteristic, they have to calibrate it continuously during the session.
And The Third Most Important Question…
“How long have you been doing laser hair removal in Atlanta?” You want someone with years of experience who has taken a rigorous training course, not just a sales rep’s half-afternoon show-and-tell.

Scrotum, Anus and Penis Laser Hair Removal
We are one of the few rejuvenation centers in Atlanta that actually specialize in men’s laser hair removal, particularly in sensitive places like the scrotum, anus and penis. Some of our patients call it “The Gurley Special.” It’s not just for cosmetic purposes. If you shave down there, you may be creating an entry point for disease or staph infections like MRSA.
What Exactly Is Laser Hair Removal?
It is a technique using concentrated beams of light to permanently remove or reduce unwanted hair. The light destroys the hair and disables the follicle from growing more hair. It is the second most common cosmetic procedure after Botox.
Will The Laser Burn My Skin?
No. It is gentle on the skin. The laser light selectively targets the hair follicle, leaving the surrounding skin undamaged. In fact, it is used successfully in the most delicate areas of your body, like the underarm, scrotum, even the penis.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Compare to Electrolysis?
Studies show that laser hair removal is up to 60 times faster, less painful and more reliable than electrolysis.
Does The Laser Target One Hair At A Time, Like Electrolysis?
No, it targets many hairs at the same time, so it can cover an area the size of a dime in about a second. Small areas like your upper lip can be treated in less than a minute, and large areas, such as the back or legs, may take up to an hour.
Are The Effects Permanent?
Ninety percent of patients have permanent hair loss (or reduction) after an average of six to eight sessions.
What Happens During The Procedure?
Your hair will be trimmed to a few millimeters above the skin surface, you will be given a pair of special sunglasses to protect your eyes, and a special cold gel to protect the skin and help the laser light do a better job of targeting the hair.
Then the technician aims a small “wand” at the treatment area and releases pulses of laser light, calibrating it every few minutes to maximize effectiveness and minimize adverse reactions. When the procedure is completed, you will be given ice packs, aloe gels, anti-inflammatory creams or lotion to relieve any discomfort you might have.

Does It Hurt?
It’s nothing compared to waxing and a lot less painful than electrolysis, but you should expect some level of discomfort. Numbing creams are available.
How Long Is Each Session?
Between 15 minutes to an hour, depending on the treatment area.
How Many Sessions Will It Take?
Between six to eight, depending on the treatment area. After the hair falls out, you will notice new, thinner hair growth. Hair grows in cycles. With each successive laser treatment, the follicle is less able to produce hair, and eventually will not produce it at all. Some people may need further touch-ups for years to come, depending on their hormone levels and other factors.
Is The Hair Removed During The Session?
For the most part, no. That’s because laser hair removal kills or disables the follicle that produces the hair. Therefore, you will see the hair fall out on its own in the following weeks.
Do I Need To Prepare For A Treatment?
Yes. Don’t pluck, wax or use electrolysis for six weeks before treatment because you will end up removing the root of the hair, which the laser needs for targeting. Also, avoid the sun for six weeks before and after treatment. Sun exposure decreases the effectiveness of the pulsing laser light and increases the risk of complications following treatment.
Are There Side Effects?
You might experience itching, redness and swelling around the treatment area, but they should not last more than three days. Icing the area helps relieve the side effects faster.
How Much Time Should I Schedule Between Laser Hair Removal Sessions?
You may be scheduled for your next treatment four to six weeks later. Treatments will be repeated until hair growth stops.
Who Actually Performs The Laser Hair Removal?
A trained technician who reports to, is supervised by, and reviewed regularly by Dr. Gurley.
How Much Will Laser Hair Removal Cost?
It depends on many factors — your skin type (dark hair on light skin works fastest because the hair absorbs the laser light more easily), the size of the area, the amount of hair in it and your particular hair growth pattern.
If you fit the average profile, you will need an average of six to eight sessions. But the only way to find out for sure is to call us at 404-888-0228 for a free, no-obligation consultation.
